With Winter soon upon us, and a nasty burst of coughs and cold around us, this week I was searching for a natural and soothing way to reduce pain and promote healing.
Turmeric, honey, coconut oil and grass fed gelatin were the answer!
I found this nifty little recipe from my friend Sophie over at A Squirrel in the Kitchen – a site with great recipes and information for healing the gut , boosting your immunity and promoting wellness.

So I researched the ingredients to give you a quick run down of the benefits of this remedy.
Turmeric is especially recommended for inflammatory pain and can help to quickly reduce the pain.
Turmeric contains curcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Curcumin’s powerful antioxidant effects neutralise free radicals on its own, then stimulates the body’s own antioxidant enzymes.
With chronic inflammation known to be a contributor to many common Western diseases, Curcumin can inhibit many molecules known to play major roles in inflammation.
Manuka honey can protect against damage caused by bacteria. It can also stimulate production of special cells that can repair tissue damaged by infection. In addition, honey also has an anti-inflammatory action that can quickly reduce pain and inflammation once it is applied.
Exciting new research shows a strong effect of manuka honey against the influenza virus. Scientists looking at the anti-viral effects of honey have shown strong anti-influenza activity with manuka honey showing particularly strong inhibition.
The research, led by Professor Ken Watanabe from Nagasaki University in Japan, found that honey inhibited replication of the flu virus and when the influenza virus was pre-treated with manuka honey before infection of cells, the virus was rendered inactive.
Grass-fed Gelatin is fantastic for improving gut health and can help you manage inflammation and pain.
It helps carry fluid through the intestines, and coats the lining of the digestive tract providing a soothing and protective layer.
Whole Protein Gelatin is the type of gelatin used to make gummies or jelly snacks.
In addition Coconut Oil not only helps the absorption of Tumeric powder, but also has many proven healing benefits!
Almost 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil are the 12-carbon Lauric Acid.
When coconut oil is enzymatically digested, it also forms a monoglyceride called monolaurin.
Both lauric acid and monolaurin can kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi, including substances shown to kill the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus (a very dangerous pathogen) and the yeast Candida Albicans, a common source of yeast infections in humans.
These little gummies take only minutes to make, provide fast soothing relief to sore throats and contribute to the many additional healing benefits.
See you next time for more tips from my healing home!
