Meet The Fresh Osteopaths Dr Cassandra Lacey & Dr Katrina Dwyer

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopath is a form of manual healthcare which recognises the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions.  The focus is directed at how your spine, joints, muscles, ligaments, connective tissue and nervous/circulatory/lymphatic systems function as a holistic unit.

We pride ourselves on accurate and specific diagnoses of musculoskeletal complaints while having a more holistic view of the body, and treating the person rather than just the condition.

Our role in the healthcare system is for helping people maintain and restore health, that includes those suffering from a specific musculoskeletal problem to others who seek health education and preventive measures.
In Australia, Osteopaths are government registered practitioners who complete a minimum of 5-year University degree (3yr Bachelor Degree and 2yr Master Degree) training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general medical diagnosis and Osteopathic techniques.

Who we treat:

  • All ages from children to elderly
  •  All fitness levels form desk workers to athletes
  • Pre-natal and post-natal

We can assist you with a range of different complaints including:

– Lower back pain, intervertebral disc injuries, radicular pain

– Neck pain, headaches, vertigo, whiplash

– TMJ (jaw) pain

– Peripheral Joint pain including Hip/Knee/Shoulder

– Sporting injuries ie. Strain/sprains

What happens in a Consultation?

Initial consultation is 45-60 minutes which includes through clinical history, assessment, diagnosis,
treatment and management of your complaint. Your time is spent one on one with your Osteopath in an environment which is friendly, professional and individually focused. The length of treatment is important its gives us enough times to completely treat a patient and not partially treat them.

Osteopath treatment includes appropriate researched based techniques including manipulation, articulation, muscle energy techniques, soft tissue and stretching. This is coupled with specific management to inform and educate you aiming to address the cause of your issues and prevent reoccurrence.

Your Osteopath will advise you whether you need follow up consultation (30min) which will depend on your complaint.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

  • Wear comfortable loose fitting clothing
  • Relevant investigations ie. Xray/MRI/CT scans
  • Referral from Doctor – Chronic Disease Management Plan, DVA or Third Party Insurance (please note consultations do not require GP referral)
